Coalescence #1    2024

Spaulted Maple and Red Oak

Coalescence #01:

Depicts a playful waterdrop falling through the air toward the beach.

The Coalescence Series of 10 depicts the spiritual energy of water drop falling in the air. Water is life and therefore is alive. These depict the inner electrostatic bonds of the water coalescing and balancing the counter force of the air. My work in general stems from the modernist edict of poetic simplicity, the direct substantiation of an idea; trying to express the energy uniting me with the material directly, by reading it carefully and expressing an idea.

The Stingray
Low Table

40" round at 17"

Red Oak and Burned Red Oak

Starting at $3,500
The Stingray is a low table made of air-dried red oak with steel rods; using a burned umber tone on the pedestal and brackets. This piece uses a double bridle joint on a 25-degree compound rake, with steel rods floating the bridled and routed brackets. These backets are remarkably strong, while allowing the top to breathe and adjust with humidity and remain in plane. The composition is to create a sense of movement, that twitch a stingray makes when lightly startled just flit-gilding away.

Black Walnut and Ash

Jupiter. This low table is made of air-dried walnut with ash legs and a brazed red oak shelf. Air drying brings out a blue-purple in walnut. So, the swirls, volutes, and eddies in the branch wood looked like the equator while the branch pocket became the storm eye of Jupiter. I tenoned the legs to depict the four moons, placing them to evoke the feel of movement.
